Bing mixed things up on Wednesday. After a medium tough warmup, he split the class up into three groups. The brand new guys went down with Rick to work on basics, while some of the more experienced white belts worked with Trevin on slightly less basic basics. The rest of us worked on a couple of De La Riva sweeps that are pretty neat.
Sparring was a little different. First Bing paired us up with someone close to our own skill. I paired up with Mark, another blue belt who is about my size. First, he tried to pass my guard while I worked to sweep or submit. If either person achieved his goal, we reset and start over. After, we switched roles, and I tried to pass his guard. After this, we did the same thing, just king of the mat style. I passed Sammy’s guard and took his spot and kept it for about 10 minutes. I tried to really open up my guard game with the newer guys to work that and give them a different look.
After this we rolled the last round like normal, starting from knees. I started the round from turtle and reset to turtle whenever I had the chance to do so. I did okay getting back to guard, even managing to get the monkey roll to work for me (which I will call a ninja roll from now on, because it sounds way cooler).
Next class, if all is well, will be tomorrow. Can’t wait.

Steve,
What is the monkey or ninja roll? We all have so many names for the same thing. I’m wondering if I already know it by another name.
Thanks,
Jason
Hey Jason. I posted a video of what I’m talking about. Hope that helps.
