First thing’s first. Congratulations to Josh Calvo. I know I mentioned it before, but my friend Josh had his professional MMA debut last month and looked great. Here’s the video:

This was a great event… very fun.

In other news, I finally… FINALLY went back to class. It had been about three weeks since I hurt my back. As I mentioned in a previous post, we were working the tripod sweep from spider guard and I ended up really jacking up my lower back. But I’m feeling much better and looking forward to really making some healthy changes.
One of the things I’m doing is to incorporate some yoga into my routine. I’m going to join my wife and daughter at yoga class one a week. I’d like to go more often, but ultimately, given the choice between BJJ and Yoga, I’m going to pick BJJ everytime. So, if I can get to class three times per week and yoga once, I’m good. I’m also going to be diligent about stretching at home for at least a few minutes each day.

Another change is an inversion table. I’ve considered getting one in the past, but have never done it. Sunday, however, Todd mentioned that he saw one on sale for about 50% off, so I went ahead and spent some of my allowance. I’ve got it put together, but haven’t spent much time on it yet. I tried it out for a few minutes and was surprised at the amount of pull it creates. I guess I didn’t realize how big my head really is (in a literal sense… I can hear my wife making an ego joke now). I expect that it’s something I’ll have to acclimate to, but Todd swears by it, and inversion has been recommended to me by many people including my PT. So, there ya go. I’ll keep you posted.

Class itself was good. We worked armbar from guard defense… very basic stuff, but always good. I felt fine through the entire class. My back twinged from time to time, but I took it easy and felt good enough to roll light for sparring. I made a point of going only with a few guys who were smaller than I, and who I was pretty sure wouldn’t go nuts. I rolled twice with Scott, a 3 stripe purple belt, and one of the newer white belts once.

I googled 'inversion table' to find out what you were referring to. Damn, that is one serious looking piece of therapy.
Your adult mind is thinking: hmm, wonder if that helps my back. Your kids' mind is thinking: wow a new ride to play on!!

Meerkatsu: You hit the nail on the head. I'm not sure who's having more fun with it so far, me or my kids.

Mathieu, I sincerely hope so. This injury thing is no fun.
