Had a bit of a scare last night at class. We were working takedowns and I landed a little funny on my left knee. It felt like I hit the funny bone on the inside of the knee, and then settled into a really deep knot/bruisy kind of feeling. After it cooled off, it felt even worse and even though I iced it last night and have taken anti-inflammatories last night and today, it was very sore when I woke up.

Ultimately, though, I think it’s okay. Throughout the day, it’s been feeling better, and while it’s still a little sore feels strong.

One of the things that I’ve commented on before is how lucky I am to have escaped serious injury. While I’ve battled some back issues, and have popped my elbow a couple of times, these injuries were relatively minor and nothing that required surgery. Many of my buddies, both online and in real life, have blown out their knees to one degree or another.

I have things I want to accomplish this year. I’m committed to competing at the Revolution in November and working toward competing at the Pan Ams next April. Knee surgery would definitely jeopardize these plans!!!

So, I feel like I’ve dodged a bullet! Whew!

Yes indeed! I was out for 5 wks because of my knee injury and I didn't even need surgery.

Continued success with training and refereeing.

yeah my left knee is pretty thrashed. Hurting in the joint also, but its popping a lot now. My left elbow isn't much better. If I lay down my knee gets stiff and my elbow locks up. I will get them looked at soon – after the tournament in a few weeks.

Coming from a Judo background many times I have fallen on my knee. Usually rest is the best thing (which im sure you know anyway). Good luck in your preparations.

Glad to hear your knee is okay!

Thanks, guys. I'm feeling pretty good. It's still sore, but not bad. I'm going to wear a compression brace for a while to keep it solid… mainly I think to remind me not to go too hard on it, and take it from there. Looking forward to getting to class tomorrow evening.
