Okay, so this is going to be a place for me to keep track of my progress through BJJ. I recently started training at Foster BJJ in Auburn, WA, and it’s been recommended by several people that I keep a blog to track my progress and help retain drills and technique.

Suffice to say, I’m a white belt, and am going to be a white belt for a loooong time. Not that I’m too worried about that.

What I’m hoping to keep track of are the details that I pick up. So far, I’m having to use more muscle than finesse… but I’m looking forward to changing that.

Awesome – someone who started around the same time as me. Just what I’ve been looking for! :D

Excellent! I can almost guarantee you that you’re learning faster than I am! I’m not the slowest boat in the river, but damn near it. :D

Heh: I wouldn’t be sure of that. I’m in a beginner class, whereas you’re surrounded by blue belts and up, so your learning curve is rather sharper. ;)

Having said that, I like the beginner/advanced split – smoothes out the learning curve a little. :D

Slow is good.. honestly. Taking one’s time to truly understand, to work it out, to let it soak into you.. THAT is where real learning happens. I find that it is the students that have to struggle with the knowledge that become the ones that can remember things the best. It is through the mental effort, and physical energy expended that one learns how to do something… If it’s too easy for you to do, then you will find it will be easy to forget, also.
